CUT - Block 2 {Sew Out Loud QAL}

Today's my day to present you a block 2 in our Sew Out Loud QAL (for those who don't know about our QAL, HERE are all the details). Many thanks for the Fat Quarter Shop which sponsored the fabrics for QAL's blocks!

Here it is:

Dzis moja kolej w maszym QALu. Blok nr 2 - CUT:

I designed this block in EQ7:

Blok zaprojektowalam w programie Electric Quilt 7:

The block measures 12" (12.5" unfinished), and as I couldn't add a test 1" square to the templates from EQ7, here's a little tip for you. After printing the templates (remember to set the printer to print without scaling, 100%), measure the hight of part A9 (like on the picture below). It should be 5" (without SA).

What you will also have to do after printing the templates is to join the longest parts - part 'I' and 'J'. You will see a thin grey line on both pieces of part I and J. That's the point of joining the pieces.

To make sewing the parts togeher easier: first join parts of letter 'C' - part G, F and H. Then D with E and C with B. Next step - sew together DE and CB. Now it easy to sew it together with part A and whole letter 'C'. At the end add parts I and J.

Po uszyciu poszczegolnych czesci czas je polaczyc. Najpierw litere C, czyli czesci G, F i H. Potem D i E, nastepnie C i B. Teraz zszywamy CB razem z DE i dodajemy A. Nastepnie zszyta juz litere C i czesci I i J.

I also made a template for the scrappy version of the block (the difference is in the upper and the lower part of the block), but the parts of the block are named with different letters (but I think you can easily compare the two blocks and use the sewing directions of the first block or just rename the parts after printing). For those who would like to try:

EDIT: I can never make anything without mistakes... In the scrappy version, the template is wrongly coloured in one place (and the picture above was also missing the red colour in one spot, but I just corrected that a moment ago).

When you have the block ready, it's time to add the embroidery - the cutting line and the scissors. If you use less busy fabric on backgroud, hand embroidery would be visible and enough. I used quite a busy print, and was painting my cutting line and scissory with fabric paint. You can also use satin stitch and sew the line with your sewing machine. It's up to you :)

Gdy juz caly blok jest zszyty, czas dodac ostatni element - przerywana linie w miejscu ciecia i nozyczki. Przy jasniejszym materiale na tlo, wystarczy reczny haft. Ja uzylam materialu z gestym i dosc ciemnym wzorem i zamiast haftu namalowalam detale farba do materialu. Mozna tez uzyc gestego zygzaka i wyszyc przerywana linie na maszynie. Wybor nalezy do was.
