First of all, I planned to write today about something totally different. Didn't work...
As you may noticed I changed my blog layout. It's already 4th or 5th change since I started blogging, but I think that now I'm finally satisfied (let's say for some time ;) ). Up to now I was missing a moth design/photo/graphic (call it how you want :) ) which I could use to give my blog some character. I decided to make me one. I was searching for a moth species which would fit to my idea of the blog layout. I found this, which was perfect:
photo from: http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Male_Salt_Marsh_Moth,_Megan_McCarty112.jpg
It's a Salt marsh moth (Estigmene acrea)
I started the appilque (it's raw edge) yesterday in the evening and really didn't plan to finish it soon. It's going to be a part of something (secret) a little bit bigger, and to make it I have to wait for my new fabric to be shipped. So I just took some photos today in the morning to give you a sneek peak.
Somehow in the afternoon I started to continue... and I continued untill I was finished -.- What do you think? Similar to the one on the photo ;) ?
I used rabbit fur (from my cats' toy) to make those tiny fluffy hair on the moth's head and the base of the wings:
Markings on the wings and shadings are painted with Marabu Textile paint.
This photo I took to create a new header for my blog:
Now, Shape Moth world is complete...
Hugs and good night
