I bet you've already heard about DWR Challenge organised by NYC Metro Mod Quiltguild. That was my first time sewing DQR block. I also designed a mini quilt with my interpretation of DWR but there is absolutely no way that I would manage to sew it before the deadline of the contest. I'll try to sew it one day, though.
I decided to sew something for the 'Small' category (single DWR circle). I used EZ Quilting/Simplicity templates to make it.
I had several ideas what to do with a single circle, but the best seemed the last one - a wall clock. Choosing fabrics was extremely hard. I wanted to hang the clock in my sewing room and first I wanted to make in only in beige/gray/black color combo, but that wasn't looking very good when I paired some fabrics together. Then I pulled the butterfly/moth fabric from Eclectic Elements and thought that it would be so cool to make a 'Shape Moth' wall clock :)
I placed the biggest butterfly in the center and added some beautiful, lime Curio fabric for the outside edges. This fits so nicely to the colours of my blog :)
Pomyslow na uszycie pojedynczego bloku mialam jak zwykle kilka ale wygral ten ostatni - zegar. Materialy wybieralam chyba ponad godzine. No nic mi nie pasowalo. Na poczatku chcialam zegar w kolorach bezu/szarosci z elementami czarnego ale nie mialam odpowiednich tkanin. Potem wyciagnelam z szafy material w motyle/cmy z kolekcji Eclectic Elements i tor myslenia poszedl w kierunku zegara 'Shape Moth' :) Do bezow i szarosci dodalam troche delikatnego zielonego a w samym centrum umiescilam najwiekszego motyla jaki byl na materiale:
Sewing curves wasn't a big deal. It just needed some pinning and everything fitted really nicely:
I wanted somehow to accent the hours on the clock and used little butterflies/moths from the fabric. I placed them on the outer, lime edge:
Godziny na zegarze zaakcentowalm malutkimi motylkami/cmami wycietymi z materialu:
Then backing and quilting. I didn't piece the arcs of the DWR as I wanted the simplicity and elegance. I also wanted to quilt them nicely:
Pobawilam sie troche z pikowaniem:
Then I cut the circle and added the grommet in the centre for the clock mechanism:
Abracadabra and the clock is almost ready :D I added the binding (cut wide, so it could cover the sides) and mounted the circle on a piece of a foam board:
Kolo obszylam szeroka lamowka. Na spod zegara dalam styropian, ktory zakrylam wlasnie lamowka:
The last part was to add the hands (with a small detail on the minute hand :)
I jeszcze maly akcencik na minutowej wskazowce:
I'm absolutely delighted with the result. I guess the result outgrew my expectations *so happy* :)
Zegar mi sie straszliwie podoba :) Jest wielki ale do pokoju szyciowego bedzie doskonale pasowal.
